The Hounslow Chamber of Commerce invited all the candidates for the Feltham and Heston bye-election to a hustings on Monday night at St Giles Hotel, Feltham.

The event was very short and each candidate was given 3 minutes to speak on how they would improve conditions for small and medium sized businesses in Feltham.

To see video's of George Hallam's speech to the hustings click on the Video links to the left.

The Hounslow Chronicle has described George Hallam as "an active campaigner" in an article which profiles several candidates in the forthcoming Feltham & Heston by-election.

Election addresses for next Thursday's bye-election are being delivered to every home by Royal Mail.

Portrait of George HallamA bit by George Hallam about why you should or should not vote for him...

My campaign manager thinks that people in Feltham and Heston should know more about me. That’s fair enough but I’m hardly the best person to tell them. After all who judges a man by his opinion of himself?

What I say about myself

I am 64. I worked in British industry when it still existed. For the last 21 years I have worked as a lecturer in a university economics department. Since September last year I have worked part-time.

I am married with a teenage daughter who has just left home to start her first year at university (thus escaping the swingeing increase in fees).

What people say about me

“Not honest enough to come from the North, not polite enough to come from the South: he must be from Birmingham” True, I am from Birmingham. “He likes to hear the sound of his own voice.” – lots of people have said this. I prefer to think of myself as someone who has some things worth saying.

George Hallam was in Feltham on Tuesday meeting the

electorate and explaining why People Before Profit is contesting the election.

People Before Profit has always belived in supporting small businesses, including independent shops, whereas government and local council policies often favour big chain stores.

George visited a dozen shopkeepers and explained our policy and heard again how difficult it is for shopkeepers to survive int he current economic climate.

George Hallam has been nominated as the London People Before Profit candidate for the Feltham and Heston Bye-Election on 15th December.

An emergency meeting of Lewisham People Before Profit on Monday decided to stand in the election to give the voters of this part of Hounslow a chance to vote for a candidate committed to public services, to employment and to ending this country's warmongering role in world affairs.

This will be the first time Lewisham People Before Profit has contested an election outside the borough of Lewisham, and it is in preparation for the Greater London Assembly elections that we registered the name London People Before Profit with the electoral commission recently.
