Barbara Raymond is People Before Profit candidate for Greenwich & Lewisham GLA seat
11th March 2012
People Before Profit has selected Barbara Raymond as its candidate for the GLA elections to be held on May 3rd along with the election for Mayor of London.
Barbara Raymond first took on the establishment when the council wanted to demolish all the houses in Batavia Road, New Cross. Hers is the only house still standing – a testimony to her determination over a 10 year struggle.
Now in her 70’s and having brought up 10 children, Barbara is still active in campaigning for youth services and against cuts in children’s provision. She is also involved in the occupation of council houses to prevent their sell-off.
Barbara works as an unpaid Family Support Worker at Greenwich Court and is also involved in Lewisham Pensioners’ Forum and the National Pensioners Parliament.
You can meet Barbara in person any Saturday up to April 28th – check our website for time and place or phone our campaign office: 020 8465 9222
Our main thrusts in this election are the issues of Jobs, Housing, Cuts in public spending, Environment, Transport and the NHS.
If you think there is an alternative to the Tory-Lib-Labour recipe of making ordinary people pay for the banking bailout then please join our campaign to elect Barbara to the Greater London Assembly on May 3rd.
